Meet Coach Jenks

Based in Ottawa, I am a dedicated goaltending coach with over 15 years of experience working with goaltenders across all age groups. My coaching journey began at the age of 17 and has since evolved into a full-time profession, driven by a deep passion for the position and for helping athletes reach their full potential.

As a player, I developed through the ranks of minor hockey with the Ottawa Valley Titans, Harrington College of Canada, and the Mississauga Reps. I advanced to the junior level with the Brockville Braves, Smiths Falls Bears, and Cornwall Colts before completing four seasons with the Carleton University Ravens. During my time at Carleton, I earned a degree in Law with a concentration in Business Law.

My transition into coaching began under the mentorship of Charlie McTavish—then my goaltending coach with the Smiths Falls Bears and now with the Arizona Coyotes organization. He introduced me to the fundamentals of effective goalie development, including session planning, communication, and, most importantly, building meaningful connections with athletes.

Today, I operate my own goaltending development business, partnering with more than 10 teams and supporting dozens of individual goalies each season. I also work professionally in the hockey industry as a sales representative with CCM Hockey, helping goaltenders across the region find equipment tailored to their playing style and performance needs.

Outside of coaching, I stay actively involved in the game through regular on-ice sessions, allowing me to continuously refine my teaching methods and stay connected to the evolving nature of the position. Away from the rink, I enjoy running, reading, and spending time with my Black Lab, Pico.

Coaching Philosophy

My approach to goaltending development is rooted in a people-first philosophy. Whether you’re six or sixty, building a strong coach-athlete connection is at the heart of effective growth. By taking the time to understand each athlete’s unique perspective, background, and learning style, we can work together to find the most effective and individualized path to improvement.

Every goaltender has their own style, and I believe that should be celebrated—not coached out of them. While there are foundational techniques that apply across the board, there are always multiple ways to succeed depending on a goalie’s speed, size, skill set, and instincts. My goal is to help each athlete define their personal style of play and then tailor our training to enhance it.

The first priority in any development plan is creating the right learning environment—one that fosters confidence, curiosity, and adaptability. From there, we build a customized roadmap based on your strengths, challenges, and long-term goals.

Goaltending is unpredictable by nature. The game moves fast, and success often comes down to your ability to read, react, and adapt under pressure. That’s why I emphasize training in dynamic, game-relevant situations—handling traffic, reading options, and staying composed in chaos. By simulating real-game conditions, we can sharpen your goalie IQ, elevate your focus, and prepare you to thrive in the most demanding moments.
